Shades Mountain Park Scholarship Recipients Announced

Now that school is back in session in Hoover, Alabama our thoughts will be turning to football.  Well, not EVERYONE here is totally focused in football.  At the Shades Mountain Park the fall ball registration has just been completed - that's BASEBALL.  Fall ball games are played on Sunday afternoons at Shades Mountain Park.  Games will begin after Labor Day and run through the end of October.  Fall Ball is not as competitive as the spring season and is a great time for kids who have never played before to learn some skills.  OF course there are those who can't LIVE without baseball and this is a wonderful time for them to keep up their skills.

Both my sons have played ball at Shades Mountain - the adult volunteers care about the kids and the fields are well maintained.  When my oldest was 13, the allstar team formed from his peer group took the Dizzy Dean National Championship.  Other teams throughout the years have been nationally ranked as well. The adult volunteers care about the kids and it is fun to watch the skills they develop at an early age.  For more info about the Park, take a look at www.shadesmountainpark.org.

As part of their continuing commitment to the kids, this year the park has awarded 5 college scholarships.  These winners were all kids who played at the park.  Applicants were evaluated on academic performance, letters of recommendation, essays and interviews.  Contratulations go to:

Dustin Daugherty, Jonathan Fargason, Steven Guy, Josh Knuth and Steven Weaver.

Shades Mountain Park is located at 1211 Al Sier Rd, just 2 miles from the I-459/HWY 150 interstection.  Come check out one of the many parks Hoover, Alabama has to offer.
